Does anyone miss 2020’s summer of love crime? The arson, the lootings, the killings, beatings and rampages were “mostly peaceful” after all. If the dead cannot be raised raising hell — making off with a case of our favorite drink from a local merchant is the least we can do. Surrounded by embers in boozy bliss and the spirits of George Floyd, Jacob Blake and other latter day saints dwell in our midst.
The news mouths kept explaining the
memorial rites at the time. They weren’t “rioting,” they were teaching
us a lesson. It was often one that sunk in. Suburbanites steered clear
of town and many proprietors closed shop. Crime surged upwards as police
were instructed to live and let live. Murder spiked 30% amounting to
nearly 5000 more corpses than in 2019. Most in the media showed warmth
and understanding. ‘Ya’ gotta’ be cruel to be kind’ we’ve been told.
Doling out the cruelty with equity and inclusion is the tricky part. The
socially justifiable had little choice but to hand it out randomly
hoping to get lucky.

When you take to the streets for the victims, they must be chosen carefully. The social conscious of the UK – aka media – judiciously rule on who qualifies. Only a Nazi gets livid and rowdy over three little girls under age 10 butchered in a frenzy. A guy like Jacob Blake, defying the cops while stealing a car full of kids in defiance of police commands, is what sparks the humanity of town torchers everywhere. Bebe King 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe 7 and Alice Dasilva Aguiar 9 , failed to make that cut. What is the message from our credentialed informers? There isn’t enough space left between woke ears to
accommodate a few little girls honing Taylor Swift dance moves.Do you get it yet? The unwritten rulebook of modern martyrdom is not for the faint of heart. There are standards to be considered. The Molotovs must be hurled under strict supervision. Only an inked up, ever enraged Guardian by-liner can be trusted to rule on mass public “mourning”. Asking if the Southport victims merit consideration is the height of effrontery. What’s dangling from their nostrils swings wildly at the suggestion. Deciding who counts enough to rise up over is not the peasantries’ call to make.
The Wicked Witch of the West warned us about violence, “These things must be done delicately, or you hurt the spell.” The un-enthralled among the masses always find themselves in the same predicament: damned by the party for remaining un-spellbound. Their fate in the clutches of the ruling coven may fall short of the usual construction of “delicacy.”
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, in a more flexible era, said to “find someone who’s turning and you will come around.” They only saw castles burning then. Looking more carefully they might have noticed the Mom and Pop’s, hovels, salons and corner groceries aflame at the time. It may be too late to do any “turning” once the bloodthirsty mob has turned on you. Letting it bring you down might be a healthy first step toward that “river of sight” they’re singing about.
I hope this helps everyone “really “understand how the first few hours of unrest after the Southport massacre arose to the level of “Nazism,” while 100 days of it was hardly adequate atonement for George Floyd. Emotions will be ruled, or licensed to become unruly, from on high. If you don’t understand that, that “Dead man lying by the side of the road with the daylight in his eye” could end up being you.
Another CSNY tune, Chicago, might be timelier at the moment. The refrain goes:

Democrats could find to start that process? Isn’t a better example of
all that’s off course in their navigational plotting toward a better
world? The city lost over 70,000 residents in the years 2021-22 alone.
Its schools turn out grads that can’t count or read. They outpace,
in education spending, neighboring states that outperform them by leaps
and bounds. The agenda at the DNC convention is to copy and paste this
master plan onto a national one. Chicago has a homicide rate over four
times the national average. And the party convening there is offering
nothing but the same sauce that gives the Windy City its present

The media, the professoriate and politicians try to rule on what the populace should be up in arms about. They’ve gotten pretty good at it. People lose jobs and suffer other serious consequences for failing to toe the politically emotional line. Any sense of reality gets further blurred, literally, by dancing, hooping and hollering, hipsterizing and generally partying away unpleasant details. Their plans for utopia have proven disastrous for generations. Getting celebs to cheerlead is part of the M/O.
It isn’t at all clear how the Democratic leadership feels about riots generally. Although, it’s pellucid there are thousands they give the nod to. When their direction is followed and urban mayhem persists anyway, who is to blame? The same fanatics will choose who counts most in the carnage department and damn anyone defying them. The world re-arrangement that CSNY referred to on Four Way Street has been served up. Wall Street’s more powerful than ever, economic disparity is worse, education is in shambles, drug death keeps peaking and street violence made its comeback. But the greatest coup is in the public emotion department. A man can spend nearly 50 years grasping and groping with dope and indirection, he can fight police and refuse to be arrested on a felony, but he is worth more to this party that would save us than any innocent victim ever known.
It is the safest of bets that we won’t be getting statues or squares to Bebe King, Elsie Stancombe or Alice Aguiar. And an even safer one that you’d be called a Nazi, fascist and white supremacist for suggesting such a thing.
