Threat message cancelled: ‘U.S. Pacific Command has detected a missile threat to Hawaii, this is not a drill’

Residents ponder why such an alert would have been broadcast in the first place if there was no initial threat of an incoming missile to begin with

OAHU (INTELLIHUB) — An emergency broadcast alert was sent out over the airwaves in Hawaii Saturday telling residents and tourists that the U.S. Pacific Command had detected a “missile threat” to Hawaii before the alert was retracted some 40-minutes later.
The alert was issued at 8 a.m. local time until 6:07 p.m.
The message from the Integrated Public Warning & Alert System stated:

The U.S. Pacific Command has detected a missile threat to Hawaii. A missile may impact on land or sea within minutes. THIS IS NOT A DRILL! If you are indoors, stay indoors. If you are outdoors, take immediate shelter in a building. If you are driving, pull safely to the side of the road and seek shelter and lay on the floor. We will announce when the threat has ended. THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Take immediate action measures.
