Fluoride---It is Poison

Fluoride: it's in your drinking water,
it's in your toothpaste, and
it's in your non-stick frypans.
IT IS POISON!!

"Fluoridation is the greatest case of scientific
fraud of this century"
Robert Carlton, Ph. D., former U. S. EPA scientist on "Marketplace"
Canadian Broadcast Company

Brisbane (Australia) recently decided against adding fluoride of its water supply. With good reason, it would seem...

Calcium fluoride occurs naturally, yet the fluoride used in water is sodium fluoride, which is toxic waste from making nuclear weapons/fuel, aluminium (1) and fertilisers (2). One of the largest producers of fluorides as a hazardous waste by-product was ALCOA (3).

"Fluoride IS a POISON! The 1984 issue of Clinical Toxicology of Commercial Products lists fluoride as more poisonous than lead and just slightly less poisonous than arsenic. It has been used as a pesticide for mice, rats and other small pests ... . The United States Pharmacopoeia lists some of the side effects from drinking 1 to 2 pints daily of municipally fluoridated water. The list includes: nausea, bloody vomit, faintness, stomach cramps, tremors, constipation, aching bones, stiffness, skin rash, weight loss, and brown or black discoloration of the teeth. The 1991 Physicians' Desk Reference lists some of the same side effects from administered doses of fluoride." (4)

Who is responsible for fluoridation of water?
Andrew Mellon was Secretary of the US Treasury (5), with jurisdiction over the US Public Health Service. He also founded ALCOA. "In the 1930s, H. Trendly Dean of the U.S.P.H.S. conducted extensive surveys which showed that as fluoride levels in the water increased, so did the incidence of dental fluorosis. Then Dr. Gerald Cox, on the staff of the Mellon Institute [also owned by the Mellon family, and which has done much research on the effects of fluorides on human physiology, under contract with major corporations that produce fluoride ( 3 )], then claimed that if some fluoride was bad for teeth, a smaller amount was good and should be added to the water. In the late 1930s, Dean started publishing purposely skewed data to show that fluoride caused reduction in tooth decay. ... Dr. Cox convinced a Wisconsin dentist, J. J. Frisch, to promote the addition of fluoride to the water supply. This was the beginning of the infiltration into the ADA [American Dental Association] & the AMA [American Medical Association] all to find an outlet for the by-product fluoride from the nuclear, phosphate fertilizer and the aluminium industries. (4)

ALCOA's "chief attorney Oscar R. Ewing took a senior public health job in Washington in 1946 to promote water fluoridation." (1) "... it was ... ALCOA which figured prominently in the introduction of fluoride wastes from aluminium production (difficult of dispose of), quickly joined by LCI (Florida) and other fertilizer industries who had fluoride by-products classified by the EPA as hazardous waste." [3a ]

"There are no credible scientific studies which
demonstrate that fluorides are safe to ingest" [ 3 ].

“Fluoridated water causes diseases such as Down’s syndrome, heart, kidney, cancer, bone, and liver problems. Eleven European countries and 200 U.S. cities have banned its use. ... The U.S. hip-fracture rate is now the worlds highest and even the Journal of the American Medical Association magazine on August 12, 1992 blamed water fluoridation." [1]

"In 1975 Dr. John Yiamouyiannis published a preliminary survey which showed that people in fluoridated areas have a higher cancer death rate than those in non-fluoridated areas. The National Cancer Institute attempted to refute the studies. Later in 1975 Yiamouyiannis joined with Dr. Dean Burk, chief chemist of the National Cancer Institute (1939-1974) in performing other studies which were then included in the Congressional Record by Congressman Delaney, who was the original author of the Delaney Amendment, which prohibited the addition of cancer-causing substances to food used for human consumption. Both reports confirmed the existence of a link between fluoridation and cancer.(Note: Obviously Dr. Burk felt free to agree with scientific truth only after his tenure at National Cancer Institute ended, since his job depended on towing the party line)" (6).

"In 1990 Dr. John Colquhoun was forced into early requirement in New Zealand after he conducted a study on 60,000 school children and found no difference in tooth decay between fluoridated and unfluoridated areas. He additionally found that a substantial number of children in fluoridated areas suffered from dental fluorosis. He made the study public." (6)

"In a number of small villages in Sicily, Turkey and India there is naturally occurring fluoride in the water ranging from 0.7 to 5.4 ppm. Here the villagers and their livestock are chronically ill, while neighbouring villages with no fluoride have no such illnesses. Premature aging is the overall effect. Children have brown decaying teeth; young adults often have none. Young men are bent over and crippled with pain in their joints and hips. Their skin is wrinkled and they look 60 at age 30 to 40. There is premature hardening of the arteries, loss of appetite & sex drive by age 30. The rate of stillborn miscarriages by 4 months is extremely high." (4)

"In the U.S. a disease of brown decaying teeth has been known since 1916. In 1931 it was identified as "dental fluorosis". Bone disorders (skeletal fluorosis, osteoporosis and arthritic pains) from fluoride in the water have been reported in the U.S. In Bartlett, TX (1943-1953) where the water had 8ppm fluoride, the death rate was 3 times higher than in neighbouring Cameron, TX with 0.4 ppm fluoride. The U.S. Centre for Disease Control and The Safe Water Foundation estimate 30,000 to 50,000 excess deaths each year in areas where there is 1 ppm fluoride in the drinking water, the normal added amount." (4)

"Research indicates that agencies like the AMA and ADA were reasonably honest about the issue prior to 1945, before corporate pressure apparently forced them to "get in line". According to the AMA on September 18, 1943, "fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons, with the capacity to modify the metabolism of cells by inhibiting certain enzymes. Sources of fluorine intoxication include drinking water containing 1ppm or more of fluorine" (3b). Amazing, isn't it? Even the ADA was honest about the issue back then, on October 1, 1944, when it said, "drinking water containing as little as 1.2 ppm fluoride will cause developmental disturbances ... we cannot run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances. In light of our present knowledge of the chemistry of the subject, the potentialities for harm outweigh those for good " (3c). So, since the properties of fluorides haven't changed, and the nature of human physiology hasn't changed, why do they maintain today that it causes "no harm"? What's wrong with this picture? Since everything in society flows from the top down, we can only assume that governmental agency pressure is the reason. In fact, that is precisely the case, but why in God's name would that want to do that?" (3)

The "optimum level" for water fluoridation is
set at 1ppm. Levels above 1ppm are dangerous.
Mouth rinses contain 230-900 ppm (3d). Store-
bought juices can contain 2.8 ppm fluoride (3e)[7]

"Long-term accumulation of low doses has a significant effect. The medical establishment knew this in 1944, because they specifically said that levels above 1ppm were dangerous. Why, then, was the "optimum level" for water fluoridation (never mind the higher levels in foods and juices) set at 1ppm? Why would the World Health Organization have a target of fluoridating water supplies planet wide by the year 2000? (3f) Why does the Clinton administration push so hard to have the United States completely fluoridated by the year 2000? Why does Mexico add 250 mg of potassium fluoride to the salt consumed by the population? (3g) Why in 1996 is the U.S. sending proponents of fluoridation to Scotland and England to help quell the justifiable concerns of the public, who are being termed "civil rights activists"?" (3)

"Former promoters of fluoridation have since found that fluoridation does not reduce tooth decay (1987-1988). Scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (1989-1993) have come out against fluoridation because they have confirmed that it does not reduce tooth decay and that there is clear evidence that fluoride causes cancer." [ 4 ]

Chinese studies have shown that fluoride lowers IQ levels in children; that fluoride may affect the intelligence of a person as early as “embryonic life or infancy, when the … growth of the nervous system is most rapid.” (3h) “ Since fluoride levels in the body are cumulative, and fluoride intake lowers intelligence, the end result is a population with little ability to evolve.” (3)

"Many studies make it clear that fluoride causes genetic damage. The mechanism cannot be exactly pinpointed because fluoride interferes with a number of physiological processes. Most evidence indicates that it acts on the DNA Repair Enzyme System. It may also interfere with DNA synthesis or act directly on the DNA. In any case, damaged DNA and a slowed down DNA Repair Enzyme System lead to a snowballing cycle of aging = damage = aging = damage, etc.
If the unrepaired DNA damage occurs in a cell which gives rise to a sperm or egg cell, the damage will be replicated in every cell of the offspring's body and will lead to a birth defect. Unrepaired damage of a segment of DNA responsible for control of cell growth can lead to tumours and/or cancer." (4)

In the past, fluorides have been used to modify behaviour and mood of human beings. "It is a little known fact that fluoride compounds were added to the drinking water of prisoners to keep them docile and inhibit questioning of authority, both in Nazi prison camps in WWII and in the Soviet gulags in Siberia." (6). “Charles Perkins was sent to Germany by the U.S. to help run I.G. Farben, the giant chemical corporation, after World War II. In 1954 he wrote “The German chemists worked out an ingenious and far-reaching plan of mass control … Sodium fluoride occupied a prominent place … The real purpose behind water fluoridation is to reduce the resistance of the masses to domination, control, and loss of liberty.” (1)

Toothpastes, which are packaged in aluminium tubes [ 3 ] ,contain 1000 to 1500 ppm fluoride ..." The contents of a family size tube of fluoridated toothpaste is enough to kill a 25 pound child. In 1991, the Akron (Ohio) Regional Poison Centre reported that "death has been reported following ingestion of 16mg/kg of fluoride. Only 1/10 of an ounce of fluoride could kill a 100 pound adult. According to the Centre, "fluoride toothpaste contains up to 1mg/gram of fluoride." Even Proctor and Gamble, the makers of Crest, acknowledge that a family-sized tube "theoretically contains enough fluoride to kill a small child." ( 4 )

A spokesman from Melbourne Water confirmed the use of imported sodium silico fluoride and fluoro silico fluoride (a by-product of the Super-Phosphate process) in Melbourne’s water supply. The maximum upper limits of fluoridation is 1.2ppm, but is generally less than 1ppm..

Well there you have it. Some arguments against fluoride, or the truth about it. You decide. Contact your Member of Parliament if you want it changed, because we (in Melbourne) have fluoride in our water thanks to an Act of Parliament.

Fluoride, Teeth, and the Atomic Bomb
by Joel Griffiths and Chris Bryson © July 1997

Although commissioned by the Christian Science Monitor in early Spring of 1997, it has not yet been published.

It links the development of the atomic bomb with fluoridation of drinking water. Massive amounts of fluoride were needed to manufacture bomb-grade uranium. Not only was it a threat to the workers, but also to the local communities nearby. Manhattan Project scientists were instrumental, it would seem, in supplying the (falsified?) evidence that fluoridation of water supplies is safe.
