Contact Your Federal Legislators and Attend Public Hearings to Defend Vaccine Exemptions

Contact Your Federal Legislators
and Attend Public Hearings
to Defend Vaccine Exemptions
Thousands of parents have already attended state legislative public hearings in Washington, Arizona and other states to restrict or expand vaccine exemptions and informed consent rights. Many have included powerful testimony by parents describing how their children suffered vaccine reactions that permanently injured them or caused their death.

As of Feb. 25, 2019, NVIC is tracking 140 vaccine related bills in 31 states on the  NVIC Advocacy Portal . Currently, NVIC is supporting 61 bills that protect or expand vaccine informed consent rights and opposing 74 bills that threaten those rights. There are 11 states proposing to restrict or remove exemptions and 8 states have bills to add or expand vaccine exemptions, while 12 states have bills proposing to improve the vaccine informed consent process.

Federal Committee Hearings Scheduled

Tomorrow, Feb. 27 there will be a public committee hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives on "Confronting a Growing Public Health Threat: Measles Outbreaks in the U.S."  Testimony is invitation only. On Mar. 5, 2019, there will be a public committee hearing in the U.S. Senate on "Vaccines Save Lives: What Is Driving Preventable Disease Outbreaks?" Both of these hearings will be live streamed.

NVIC Issues National Press Release

On Feb. 25, 2019, NVIC issued a referenced national press release urging Americans to attend state and federal public hearings and to communicate concerns directly with their elected officials. NVIC made the following points: (1) protecting vaccine exemptions is a parental rights and civil liberty issue; (2) vaccine laws are state laws and federal officials threatening government intervention if state legislators do not restrict or eliminate vaccine exemptions is federal interference in state rights; (3) few people qualify for medical vaccine exemptions; (4) in 2011 the U.S. Supreme Court effectively removed all liability for injuries and deaths caused by FDA licensed and state mandated vaccines; (5) Congress should hold oversight hearings on the 1986 National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act that has been seriously compromised by amendments and federal agency rule making; (6) incentivizing grants are given to states by the CDC to achieve high vaccination rates; and (7) there are many new vaccines coming that will be federally recommended and state mandated.

NVIC Advocacy Portal Action Alert

Last night, the NVIC Advocacy Portal team issued an Action Alert with talking points and phone numbers for federal committee members to registered Portal users. (On top menu, click on National) Sign up to be a user of the free NVIC Advocacy Portal and receive Action Alerts, stay up to date on federal and state vaccine legislation and be in electronic contact with your own legislators.
