The Biggest Mistake People Make on Their Life’s Journey

When I toast the New Year, I feel enthusiastic about what positive possibilities await me. I know the year will be filled with accomplished goals as well as unexpected events that can be uplifting or draining. Goals require that I plan and take action to accomplish the results I want. The harsh surprises challenge me to accept and allow in order to manage them successfully.

The biggest mistake I think people make on their journey through life is to judge and resist what happens through and to them. While you may have contributed to a negative outcome, self-blame and forcing things to be your way prevent you from learning and changing. Life events—loss of a job or relationship, health challenge, financial setback, death of a loved one and more—interrupt your plans and may even change your course. While these setbacks are stressful and painful, they also offer an opportunity to evolve personally—physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
You react to trouble with worry, sadness, helplessness, anger and/or guilt. This is natural. When you blame yourself, others or life, you are wasting time and energy. You are resisting what is and tirelessly swimming upstream instead of with the current. Negative emotions and coping behaviors limit your ability to face yourself and make choices that support you. They prevent you from moving on with ease and grace.

Some life events take longer than others to accept, manage and resolve. However, if you are able to maintain a level of non-attachment and positive attitude while doing your best, you are on your way to surviving, thriving and making the most of each New Year.
Here are a few tips to help you flow with, instead of resist, what 2015 holds for you:
Accept instead of judge – Self: If there is something you want to change about yourself, do it with compassion, never making yourself wrong. Others: Instead of trying to change people, accept them for who they are, including their limitations. Situations: When a disruptive event happens in your life, do not judge it as good or bad. Instead, be aware of what is happening and how you feel. (You are not a failure or being punished.) Acceptance leads to clarity and appropriate, empowering actions.
Allow instead of resist – How would you live your life if you believed that a Higher Power is working with you and you could not make a mistake? I hope you would open your hands and heart rather than close them in the midst of a disappointment or crisis. When you understand how to go with the flow, you will be guided to a positive destination and receive the support you need to get there.
Take charge of what is within your power to change – Remind yourself that in any given moment in time you are doing your best—even if it feels like you are missing the mark. Without judgments you are more likely to make changes and take actions that empower you, improve your relationships, accomplish your goals and bring meaning into your life.
Focus on the positive – Instead of dwelling on the problem, focus on a solution that will work for you; it might even work for others. Positive thinking lifts you out of a limiting past and promotes an abundant future. By focusing on a positive outcome in the present, you heal the past and change your future because positive thoughts and feelings generate the kind of energy that fuels your vision.
You hear a lot about setting your intentions and making plans to accomplish goals at the beginning of a New Year. Are you prepared to cope with the unexpected? These few strategies will bring more ease into your body, mind, soul and life because accepting and allowing are as important as planning and doing. I encourage you to face yourself and your life with more acceptance and flow. You will turn any adversity into a stepping stone toward greater aliveness and serenity.
May 2015 treat you kindly and fulfill your heart’s desires!

Your Life is a Sacred Gift: Celebrate It!

The moment you enter the Now with your attention, you realize that life is sacred. There is a sacredness to everything you perceive when you are present. The more you live in the Now, the more you sense the simple yet profound joy of Being and the sacredness of all life.
– Eckhart Tolle from Stillness Speaks

Forced into a sedentary life style this past year with my health challenge, I used the time to put my spiritual practice into action: Live in the present moment; accept instead of judge; and acknowledge a divine order. I did my best to live these principles. Today I feel deeply blessed because I could not have my current level of awareness and gratitude without going through this latest life challenge. I came away with a powerful recognition that life is a sacred expression of a Higher Power and a desire to acknowledge the sacredness of life every day.
You might be asking: How can life be sacred with the horrific things going on in the world today and human suffering running rampant? The challenge is to allow yourself to see beyond the forest to the Essence of what created it. It takes three elements to create a human being—Creator, mother and father. This Source also gave birth to the material universe. If you think of this Higher Power with your limited version of what is real and right, you limit your ability to feel the sacredness from which life springs. However, if you are able to be fully aware in the moment, put your judgments aside and not resist what it, you begin to BE with life as it is unfolding. An attitude of awe and sacredness emerges.
Mindful awareness may not feel easy to do but it is possible. As you suspend your egoic judgments and allow your mind and heart to accept what is, you are ready to turn your attention toward the sacred. Once you do this, you will tap into the divinity within yourself as well as see the divine expressing itself in the sensual realm of material reality.
Here are a few tips to help you acknowledge and celebrate the sacred:
Honor the miracle of who you are: From the universe of infinite possibilities, you were born into your personality. Celebrate the miracle of your uniqueness and express it. Connect with the God-part of you and feel the sacredness of this divine perfection: You are accepted unconditionally.
Be mindfully present: Turn your experiences into mindful meditations: walking in nature, gazing at a sunset, looking at a loved one, feeling a sense of accomplishment, feeling a part of a group, having gratitude for a positive outcome, or connecting with an epiphany. When you are fully present, your awareness is transformed.
Observe the sacred in nature: As you connect with the magnificence of nature, you lift your awareness beyond the physical. This perception enables you to see the masterful work of the Creator and honor it. The life cycle—birth-life-death-rebirth—reminds you that a power greater than yourself is in charge.
Allow music, art and the written word to uplift you: Celebrate those moments when you are in the presence of genius: listening to a symphony, admiring a painting or sculpture, or reading a book. The sacred expresses itself in so many creative ways.
Contemplate inner stillness: Take the time to be still and feel how special life is. Feel gratitude for all that you are and all that you have. Allow your mind and heart to acknowledge and accept the peace, love and harmony within the present moment.
The sacred is found at the core of your being. It springs forth whenever you enter the present moment with objective awareness of yourself and your surroundings. In that moment, you make sacred that which you see because you have touched your own divinity. This allows you to see beyond time and space; right and wrong. You have put aside the rational mind of thinking, analyzing and judging in order to connect with a Higher Order.
When you see yourself and life through the eyes of unconditional acceptance, you experience the sacredness in yourself and life. As a result, the sacred bends to you and follows you through your life. “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the House of the Lord.” – Twenty-third Psalm from The Bible

Choose to Live Abundantly

Are you addicted to seeing what is missing in your life instead of the fullness that already exists? After hearing my inner voice give thanks for my lovely home and wishing it had larger rooms and more storage, I had an epiphany. Suddenly I realized that giving thanks and asking for more at the same time is a habitual pattern with me.

I thought I had overcome a deprivation mentality that began in my childhood but apparently it still keeps me in a subtle state of longing. Instead of acknowledging and feeling the fullness of what I have, my mind focuses on something I lack. The principles of the Law of Attraction explain that longing attracts more longing. I now understand how I manifest limited abundance.
Developing an awareness of the abundant creative flow is a challenge in today’s world. Some are dealing with survival needs and others desire something or someone that will make them feel happy or fulfilled. Most of us need help focusing on gratitude and fullness instead of lack.
The process I discovered integrates then transcends the abundance/lack polarity within our minds: We go from a perception of lack (“I do not have what I need to survive.”) to abundance/lack (“I am grateful for what I have and need more.”) to ABUNDANCE (“I HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED RIGHT NOW.”). The final perspective is a gift of grace and creates an unshakable knowing in ABUNDANCE as a spiritual principle within the universe.
Making the mental shift to this “higher” perspective takes awareness, commitment, purposeful action and grace. As you change your distorted earthly perception of lack, you will see your world through the eyes of Spirit and attract more fulfillment, harmony and abundance into your life.
Here are a few strategies that keep your attention on abundance while living in a reality that challenges this spiritual truth:
  • Become grounded in the knowledge of an abundant creative flow: You need to believe it before you can achieve it. Find transformational leaders, books and principles that verify this truth. Speak to others about their insights, experiences and doubts. Mastermind groups and workshops for spiritual enlightenment and co-creation come in many forms. The objective: Grow in the reality that you and your life are in divine right order in an abundant universe.
  • Stop the “what is missing” thinking when it begins: Challenge and change the thoughts that point out what is missing. Discipline your mind to stay in gratitude. The time to visualize what you want and create goals is not the same time to experience the fullness that already exists. Each time you feel full, complete and grateful, you are attracting more to you. This feeling brings your desires to you in accordance with your highest good.
  • Choose to see fullness in yourself and in your life: Even though you observe the world and yourself struggling in lack, hold the ideal perception of abundance in the Present Moment. Abundance is a part of you and is unfolding within you and your life. This is not denial or wishful thinking. It is a choice to see beyond the world of limitation created by the ego personality. The new mindset takes practice, practice, practice before it becomes a habit. As you do your part and invite grace into the process, you will soon reap rewards beyond your expectations.
  • Turn the outcome over to a Higher Power: Instead of trying to control outcomes, trust that a Higher Power is in charge. Ask Spirit to help you observe with clarity, do
your best and know at the deepest level of your being that what you seek is seeking you and leading to your highest good. Acceptance and gratitude for what is happening now allows you to feel whole and full and transforms you into a master co-creator within an abundant universe.
As you implement these strategies, you will replace a mindset of “what is missing in your life” with “gratitude for all you have.” The feelings of gratitude will outshine your misperception of lack. You will be able to look right through this illusion into the realm of an abundant creative flow. Abundance has many aspects if you are willing to look. It shows up in your health, relationships, possessions, creativity, work, money, physical surroundings, wisdom, spirituality and more. While struggling in one area of your life, you may have abundance in another.
In a vivid dream many years ago, I observed a dark slowly flowing river in front of me. It had no boundaries and nothing could withstand its power. I knew I had to jump into that river and become one with this universal energy. After observing it for awhile, I jumped in and a great PEACE came over me. When I get caught up in “what is missing,” I think about that image and trust that all is flowing in divine right order. This abundant creative energy is freely given from the Creator. I invite you to jump in and experience the truth, peace and fullness that come from merging with it. Abundance is your natural state of being!

The Ideal Doctor Checklist
Perhaps the time has come when we can no longer go to doctors expecting them to have all of the answers to heal our physical problems, especially the diseases that occur as a result of aging and lifestyle choices. When doctors spend 12 minutes with each patient and have insurance companies dictate the standard of care, medicine becomes an assembly line and treating the individual is almost impossible.
