U.S. Withdraws Financial Support from Pharma’s Arm GAVI

The U.S. government has withdrawn a $1.2 billion pledge to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) originally made by the Biden administration. GAVI, which is officially known as Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance, is a public-private multilateral funding partnership launched in 2000 by the pharmaceutical industry, governments and private institutions and philanthropic organizations to develop, procure and distribute vaccines to children globally. It is primarily funded by the vaccine industry, governments, World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and in collaboration with the World Health Organization/UNICEF.1 2

Current U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. announced the decision to withdraw the annual pledge to Gavi and stated that the funds will be withheld until Gavi “changes its processes.”3 The U.S. has been the third largest financial contributor to Gavi and, among governments, has been the second largest funder, providing 12 percent overall and 15 percent of government funding.4

Funding Cut Stems from Concerns about Vaccine Risks and Gavi’s Accountability

In a video message posted on the social media platform X, DHHS Secretary Kennedy criticized Gavi and stated that the organization has failed to prioritize vaccine safety. He argued that Gavi has treated vaccine safety concerns as public relations issues rather than a matter of patient health. He also pointed out that the organization partnered with the World Health Organization (WHO) during the COVID-19 pandemic to encourage social media platforms to suppress dissenting views and limit open public discussion about the SARS-CoV-2 virus and safety of COVID shots.

Kennedy urged Gavi to incorporate a broader range of scientific perspectives and to evaluate vaccine programs based not only on distribution numbers but on measurable health outcomes. He stated:

I call on Gavi to re-earn the public trust and to justify the $8 billion dollars that America has provided in funding since 2001. Until that happens, the United States won’t contribute more to Gavi. Business as usual is over.5

Gates Foundation Step In With $1.6 Billion Pledge to Gavi

After the U.S. announced that it is withdrawing its funding to Gavi, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced that it will commit $1.6 billion over the next five years to Gavi. In a statement, the foundation’s co-founder, Bill Gates, warned that recent reductions in international funding for Gavi could jeopardize progress in global public health. He said the number of child deaths worldwide is expected to rise for the first time in decades due to sharp cuts in foreign aid, calling the trend a “tragedy.” Gates added that fully funding Gavi is “the single most powerful step” to reverse that trajectory.6

Seamus Bruner, author of “Controligarchs: Exposing the Billionaire Class, their Secret Deals, and the Globalist Plot to Dominate Your Life”, argued that the Gates Foundation’s recent funding pledge aims more to expand Bill Gates’ global influence than to advance public health. Bruner stated:

The Gates Foundation’s $1.6 billion pledge, timed in response to the Trump administration’s cuts to the WHO [World Health Organization] and Gavi, looks less like charity and more like a much needed cash infusion to prop up this public-private pro-vax hybrid where Controligarchs like Gates have more influence over how, when and to whom so-called vaccines are deployed.7

The Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) reports that over the past 25 years, the Gates Foundation has contributed $7.7 billion to Gavi.8 Since the Gates Foundation contributes significant funding to Gavi, it holds a permanent seat on Gavi’s board.9

Gavi Criticized for Lack of Accountability and Transparency

Bill Gates and Gavi argued that reducing funding will result in a significant rise in child mortality. In contrast, Bruner rejected their argument, describing it as a manipulative tactic meant to deflect from valid concerns about vaccine safety, oversight, and the rights of parents. Bruner said:

Just as Secretary Kennedy is demanding placebo-controlled trials and independent review panels at home, the public must demand to know why Gavi—with billions in public and private support—is shielded from similar scrutiny abroad.10

Dr. Meryl Nass, who lost her medical license in Maine for prescribing the antiparasitic drugs ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to treat and prevent COVID-19, infection11 added:

The DOGE [Department of Government Efficiency] investigation of USAID revealed how non-governmental organizations are massively funded—and then kick back to politicians and pay for what most of us would consider unsavory activities. Gavi works in a way similar to USAID, collecting public funds in massive amounts, laundering them to favored pharmaceutical companies and entities like CEPI [Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations] and the WHO to achieve global influence.”12
