Nordstream – the Signal That Washington Knows It Has Lost the 'Great Game'

Nordstream – the Signal That Washington Knows It Has Lost the 'Great Game'

• October 2, 2022

“Not ANOTHER article about the Nordstream sabotage, surely? We all know who dunnit, because we’ve seen the Biden clip and Radek Sikorski/Applebaum’s now deleted tweet, we’ve noted the telling exchange between Sen. Ron Johnson and Victoria Nuland, and because we have the wit to ask the vital question ‘cui bono?’ So what more is to be said?”

I understand if that’s your initial reaction to seeing this piece, but bear with me, because the ‘mysterious’ Baltic explosions are more than a hugely dangerous escalation in NATO’s undeclared war on Russia. They are also a signal that one of the greatest geopolitical shifts in world history has already taken place – and that the Anglo-Zionist elite understands that its imperial dominance and unipolar moment have gone for good.

There is, indeed, no need to spend long on the question of ‘whodunnit’. The Global Times (a well-informed source close to the Chinese government) summed up the blindingly obvious:

“If Russia hopes to cut off the gas supplies to Europe, the easiest way is to turn off the valve instead of blowing its own pipelines, as Moscow could maintain the advantage of handling the energy crisis, Shen Yi, a professor at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

“’Technically, Russia sabotaging the pipelines in the Baltic Sea appears to be not feasible,”’he said. As undersea activities in the Baltic Sea have been dominated by NATO members or allies since the Cold War with monitoring devices toward then Soviet Union and now Russia, how could Moscow explode the pipelines easily, which in fact is not a favorable thing for itself, Shen asked.

“’Who want to sabotage the Russia-EU energy cooperation? The answer is pretty clear,’ Ming Jinwei, a former journalist and blogger, told the Global Times on Wednesday.

‘The US can achieve three goals: striking Russia’s energy export to attack its overall economic and financial revenues, to limit Europe’s energy supplies and make it buy more crude oil and gas from the US with higher prices and to strictly control the lifeblood of European countries, he said’.”

This fits in with the thesis of a prescient article by Mike Whitney, published in the Unz Review way back in February:

“The Ukrainian crisis has nothing to do with Ukraine. It’s about Germany and, in particular, a pipeline that connects Germany to Russia called Nord Stream 2. Washington sees the pipeline as a threat to its primacy in Europe and has tried to sabotage the project at every turn. ….

“The US Foreign Policy establishment is not happy about these developments. They don’t want Germany to become more dependent on Russian gas because commerce builds trust and trust leads to the expansion of trade. As relations grow warmer, more trade barriers are lifted, regulations are eased, travel and tourism increase, and a new security architecture evolves. In a world where Germany and Russia are friends and trading partners, there is no need for US military bases, no need for expensive US-made weapons and missile systems, and no need for NATO. There’s also no need to transact energy deals in US Dollars or to stockpile US Treasuries to balance accounts. Transactions between business partners can be conducted in their own currencies which is bound to precipitate a sharp decline in the value of the dollar and a dramatic shift in economic power.

“This is why the Biden administration opposes Nord Stream. It’s not just a pipeline, it’s a window into the future; a future in which Europe and Asia are drawn closer together into a massive free trade zone that increases their mutual power and prosperity while leaving the US on the outside looking in. Warmer relations between Germany and Russia signal an end to the “unipolar” world order the US has overseen for the last 75 years. A German-Russo alliance threatens to hasten the decline of the Superpower that is presently inching closer to the abyss. This is why Washington is determined to do everything it can to sabotage Nord Stream and keep Germany within its orbit. It’s a matter of survival.”

It is also, very clearly, a matter of short-term profits. Bloomberg pointed out in June that the US sent nearly three quarters of all its liquefied natural gas to Europe in the first four months of 2022, with daily shipments to the region more than tripling from last year’s average. I have no idea how much that is worth, but with the Saudi petro-dollar recycling mechanism so clearly crumbling, it is logical enough that the US would scramble for ways to keep their debt-ridden fiat currency inextricably connected with the energy business. Enter the European gas-dollar because, of course, all that LNG is paid for not in Euros but in USD.

While on the subject of money, we shouldn’t overlook the fact that NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine (and spreading!) is a massive laundering operation for money transferred from US taxpayers to private vested interests. From arms sales to vanishing aid money, a small number of people are hoovering up vast sums of money, and they pass a few spare wads of that filthy lucre back to the politicians and media outlets who keep up the pressure for the racket that is war. That said, to ‘follow the money’ alone would lead one to miss several much bigger and even more important pictures.

The primordial interest of the United States, over which for centuries we have fought wars– the First, the Second and Cold Wars– has been the relationship between Germany and Russia, because united there, they’re the only force that could threaten us. And to make sure that that doesn’t happen.” George Friedman, STRATFOR CEO at The Chicago Council on Foreign Affairs

I set out the connection between the pipeline outrage and the interests of the US elite in an interview earlier this week for Sky News Arabia, which often takes a very different view of world affairs to that of the Sky News we all know and loath:

“Given that Ukraine almost certainly lacks the capability for such a sophisticated attack, it is crystal clear who carried it out. There is only one other beneficiary from the Nordstream sabotage – the American financial-industrial complex and its political puppets.

“It is certainly not in Russia’s interests to destroy its own pipelines. Now that they are full of sea water, the pipes will rapidly corrode and will quickly be beyond repair. This means not only an enormous loss of capital, but it also ends the possibility that popular anger among the freezing Germans this winter could force the Berlin regime to put German interests first and to seek rapprochement with Moscow.

“So the four explosions have demolished not just some heavily protected pipes, but also Russia’s potential leverage over Germany and hence the entire EU. The loss of Nordstream means that Ukraine now has a virtual stranglehold on gas supplies from Russia to Germany and the European Union. Doing a deal with Moscow would be completely pointless now that Kiev has its paws on the remaining pipeline valves.”

“It is beyond any reasonable doubt that the USA is to blame for the destruction. But it would be naive to assume that the sole, or even primary, target was Russia. Nordstream 2 has never worked, while Nordstream 1 has been closed down since August. So while it is a huge loss to Moscow in lost capital and potential political leverage, in terms of current and even likely future revenues, it makes no difference. Indeed, the increased energy prices this now builds into the global markets over the coming winter will mean that Russia will claw back much of the lost money through increased profits from sales to Asia.

“The biggest damage of all will not be done to Russia, but to Germany. The end of all hope of a return to affordable Russian gas means that the deindustrialisation of the country will speed up even more. The closure of the BASF chemical plants is now probably unavoidable, and even their own experts are uncertain as to whether, once switched off, they can ever be made to work again. These plants provide the feedstock on which the whole of German and neighbouring countries’ industry depends. Those companies which can move their operations abroad now have a massive incentive to switch production to the USA, but the vast majority will simply collapse. The sabotage of Nordstream was thus a ruthless act of economic war against Germany and Europe.”

Here we must note that the only reason that the US Deep State is in a position to shaft its ‘European allies’ is that their own political elite have spent the last decade systematically dismantling their home-grown energy industries. We’ve seen the destruction of the coal industry (and the communities it supported), the virtual moratorium on new gas field development and the strangling of nuclear power. Along with this has gone the insistence that all these ‘dense’ and reliable energy sources could be replaced by innately unreliable and grotesquely inefficient ‘renewables’.

As F. William Engdahl has pointed out, this “is not because politicians like Scholz or German Green Economy Minister Robert Habeck, nor EU Commission Green Energy Vice President Frans Timmermans are stupid or clueless. Corrupt and dishonest, maybe yes. They know exactly what they are doing. They are reading a script. It is all part of the EU plan to deindustrialize one of the most energy-efficient industrial concentrations on the planet. This is the UN Green Agenda 2030 otherwise known as Klaus Schwab’s Great Reset.”

An insight into the scale of the self-imposed disaster may be glimpsed in the forecast of Confartigianato, in Italy. On September 9th, the president Marco Granelli stated that “expensive energy puts 881,264 micro and small enterprises with 3,529,000 employees at risk, equal to 20.6 percent of the employment of the Italian business system”. The employers’ spokesman warned of a coming “massacre of companies.”

Engdahl went on to explain how the ‘liberalisation’ of the European gas market has turned the industry from an energy supply operation into a huge casino for speculation in futures, in which every new alarm and instability creates the opportunity for vast profits.

Once again, the lust for money is the root of much of this evil, although we should not under-estimate the parallel role of ideology. Or, more accurately, of religion, because the so-called ‘green agenda’ is, at root, a pseudo-religious cult.

The religiosity for which human beings are hardwired, having been deprived of its traditional Christian expression in the increasingly Godless West, has re-emerged in a hysterical cult of Mother Earth. We have angered the Goddess, and to placate her we must sacrifice the things we most value. Although, strangely, the liberal elite who push such the secularised rationalisations of this anti-human fantasy, show a marked reluctance to make such sacrifices themselves.

This stinking hypocrisy is one of the drivers of the increasingly powerful protests against the various consequences of assorted liberal elite policy decisions, particularly the energy-suicide-by-Russia now being imposed on the peoples of Europe by Brussels, Washington and their various local puppet occupation governments.

Huge demonstrations against the sanctions and in favour of Russian gas have already taken place in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Spain and Italy. It was easy to imagine these becoming irresistibly huge and violently angry once the winter really sets in. But not any more. What is the point of demonstrating to re-open gas pipelines which cannot be turned back on? Or others which pass through the territory of the mortal enemies of the potential gas supplier?

Surely, we will still see angry protests, but they will no longer have a demand which could be instantly fulfilled and which would mean that NATO’s Ukraine adventure had ended in political and economic humiliation as well as military castration.

The Europeans in general – and the Germans in particular – can protest all they like, but the destruction of Nordstream and the related fall-out mean that they really don’t have a choice anymore. Either pay whatever price is demanded for those LNG shipments from Texas – or freeze.

By now, the well-informed reader is probably wondering “when is he going to mention the Rand Corporation document? That bears out everything said so far”. Yes it does. The ‘leaked’ document does indeed explain the US Deep State’s destructive and cynical game very well.

But, along with “follow the money”, there is another very useful saying in life: “If something’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t.” And, unfortunately, I have to say that I believe that, while the document “Executive Summary: Weakening Germany, strengthening the U.S.” is accurate in what it describes; it is just too good to be true. It’s a piece of black propaganda, which resonates so well because it is based on the facts.

I have studied the document very carefully, and I can tell you beyond any reasonable doubt that it is written by someone whose native language is not English. It is very, very nearly perfect English, but it isn’t 100%. It includes phrases such as these:

“The continuing deterioration of the economic situation is highly likely to lead to a loss in the position of the Democratic Party in Congress and the Senate in the forthcoming elections to be held in November 2022.”

“Thanks to our precise actions, it has been possible to block the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline”

“…..a loss in the position…….thanks to our precise actions”? To paraphrase Scotty in Star Trek, “it’s English, Jim, but not as we know it!”

An even bigger give-away lurks in the phrase “The major obstacle to it is growing independence of Germany.” No native English speaker would ever drop ‘the’ from before ‘growing’. But where do they do that? Apart from the unfeasibly sexy accent (when spoken by a woman, that is!) it’s the single most distinctive feature of Russian-English.

Is the Rand corporation having its internal secret documents written by a Russian fifth columnist traitor now living and working in the USA ? Either that, or the document is a forgery. My money is on the latter although, of course, what makes the forgery so convincing is that it so neatly sums up the reality of what is going on and why.

I’m sorry if that disappointed or angered you, but it doesn’t do the cause of truth any good to try to bolster it with documents which the liberal media can, if it becomes necessary, credibly write off as forgeries. Especially when the facts of what is being done by the criminals in Washington, London, Brussels and Kiev speak for themselves.

One of the most important of those facts is what Washington is doing to Germany, with the criminal complicity of the occupation regime in Berlin. They are reinforcing the vassal status of Germany by demolishing the infrastructure which gave it the physical potential to reject subservience. You cannot break away if doing so means the total collapse of your society, but to make you that vulnerable in the first place, your society has to be brought to near collapse and total dependence.

“Why Is Germany Committing Suicide?” asked David Chu in an article on Information Clearing House. “The Same Reasons why the EU/UK is Being Deindustrialized”, he replied in answer to his own question. He went on to ask another rhetorical question, which hit the nail on the head:

“Is it to emasculate Europe completely so as to make Europe completely dependent on the US for both energy and technology? The rest of the world is moving towards BRI and BRICS. The only block left to harvest aka rape and pillage for the Americans is Europe (plus Japan and South Korea).”

Just so! Which brings me to the crucial geopolitical point which, as far as I know, no other analyst has made so far. To use Germany, the EU and UK as obedient and useful vassals in a long-running cold or hot war, the USA would need them to have huge stocks of modern weapons and the ability to make more.

Yet, all we have seen since the conflict was first provoked are weapons and munitions being thrown into the Donbass meat grinder, at a rate which has left military insiders all over Western and central Europe warning that their armed forces are running out of the capacity to defend their own territory, let alone fight NATO’s proxy war in the Ukraine.

Even more incredibly, the industrial capacity which the EU and UK would need to wage a prolonged conventional war is being obliterated. In WW2 terms it’s as if Churchill had turned Bomber Command on Coventry and Birmingham, Goering had used the Luftwaffe to deindustrialise the Ruhr, and American Flying Fortresses had flattened London and Moscow.

Given that nuclear war would be suicidal for all concerned, this can only mean that – while their recklessness might cause nuclear Armageddon – the sinister forces running the Biden regime do not actually plan on fighting World War Three. I repeat, no-one prepares for war by destroying their allies’ capacity to wage it alongside them.

Understanding this also brings us to a geopolitical revelation. Again, I explained this in my latest piece for Sky News Arabia:

“The United States elite know that they have already lost world hegemony. We’ve just seen an exercise in desperate damage control. At the end of WW2 and during the old Cold War, the USA went to extraordinary lengths not only to keep Western Europe on its side, but also to ensure that Germany in particular became once again an economic powerhouse. To fight either a Cold War or a conventional hot one, you and your allies need steel works, chemical plants, vehicle factories and agricultural production. This was why Washington moved so swiftly from the Morgenthau Plan for the ‘pastoralisation’ and genocide of defeated Germany, to the Marshall Plan to rebuild it. A wealthy and economically powerful Western Europe was seen as an essential bulwark against the Soviet Union – economically and financially as well as militarily.

“The massive contrast between the Marshall Plan and the current energy blockade shows just how far times have changed. Washington knows that the unipolar moment has gone; nothing except mutual nuclear destruction can now stop China-Russia-India and the ‘global south’ developing their own economic power bloc and leaving America out in the cold. With the long struggle for global hegemony lost, Europe has ceased to be an essential ally.

“The first aim of the Ukraine war was to drive such a wedge between Germany and Russia that Berlin and its EU hinterland would not drift into the orbit of the new Eurasian co-prosperity sphere. That was achieved, but with no prospect of successful confrontation or competition with Eurasia. To do that Washington would need Germany and the EU not just onside, but also still economically powerful.

“Germany and the EU have instead become a target for asset stripping and the sale of ruinously expensive energy supplies. The ‘West’ has lost control of the world, so to try to make up for it, America has moved to ensure that it is the only economic superpower in the West. Just how long this giant looting operation can prop up the debt-ridden dollar is unclear but, from the point of view of Wall Street and the White House, it makes a very cynical sort of sense.

“Desperate sense too, because to beggar your key long-term allies and your one reliable market for a short-term financial fix is the decision of a financial junkie, not an all-powerful Doctor Evil.”

To conclude, this may still be about Mackinder, but it is no longer about control of the Eurasian land mass. To even contemplate that, Washington would need not just the conscripts of Western Europe, but also German industrial capacity. Further, even conscripts have to be willing to fight, and a society wrecked by green agenda lunacy and energy sabotage is not going to be worth fighting for.

So the Washington/Wall Street aim is not maintenance or restoration of global hegemony. It is to try to ensure the survival of US dominance in the shrunken empire of the West. In just fifteen per cent of the world!

Once more, to get to the bottom line, let’s follow the money. The panicking ‘Masters of the Universe’ are sacrifice their European allies in the desperate hope, not of global victory, but of trying to keep the fiat dollar Ponzi scheme afloat for a little while longer – even as the national debt surges past $30 trillion and the money printing machine goes into hyperdrive.

I will end with my reply to the final question from that Arab journalist the other day, who asked me what I thought Russia do to retaliate for the Baltic blast:

“No-one can predict what Russia will do, although we can be certain that the USA will in due course be presented with a very hefty bill for this latest outrage. ‘You blow up our pipelines, we’ll blow up yours’ is the sort of knee-jerk, over-hasty reaction to which Western powers are prone; Russia’s response is likely to be made in a more subtle way, somewhere further down the line.

“Given that it is about energy supplies, the bill for Nordstream might, for example, involve providing the tools which Syria and Iran need to complete the elimination of NATO’s proxy forces in Syria and Iraq. The end to the American oil-theft operation in Syria is an obvious and very fitting response. Given Vladimir Putin’s pledge that attacks on Russia would be met with an asymmetric response, however, while it would not be a surprise if this happens, it would be a big surprise if it was all that happens.

“World history since the 1960s has been one long succession of US aggression, over-reach and ghastly foreign policy errors which blow up in Uncle Sam’s face. There’s no reason for this to turn out any different.”
