Since
1982, NVIC has been receiving reports from Americans describing vaccine
injuries and deaths. Today, NVIC is hearing from more and more parents,
grandparents, health and childcare workers and other citizens reporting
vaccine reactions and vaccine failures, as well as and cases of
intimidation and reprisals for attempting to make voluntary vaccine
choices. NVIC's Director of Vaccine Response Reporting, Judith Jolly,
RN, has been following up on these reports to NVIC to learn more and
offer information and networking support.
In a 15-minute video,
Judith and Barbara briefly review several vaccine injury and harassment
case reports among the many that NVIC has received this year. The video
is the first in a series that will be highlighting case history
reports made to NVIC.

Californians
line up before an Apr. 22, 2015 Senate Education Committee hearing to
oppose SB277, a forced vaccination bill to remove non-medical vaccine
exemptions.
On
Apr. 22, more than 1,000 Californians, many accompanied by their
infants and children, lined up outside and packed four floors of the
state Capitol building in Sacramento. Patiently, they waited to
participate in the democratic process and testify against SB277 in an
historic demonstration of citizen rejection of forced vaccination laws.
The bill is authored by pediatrician-turned-politician Richard Pan, MD
(D-Sacramento) and attorney Ben Allen (D-Santa Monica), who are lobbying
to remove personal belief vaccine exemptions so children cannot attend
school unless their parents show proof they have received multiple doses
of federally recommended vaccines.
Overwhelming Citizen Opposition Ignored by CA Senators
A
week earlier, bill opponents outnumbered bill supporters by 10 to 1 in a
three hour Senate Health Committee hearing. Almost twice the number of
parents, grandparents, business owners, health care workers, teachers
and other concerned citizens showed up to testify against the bill in a
three hour Apr. 15 Education Committee hearing that saw the Committee
chair call for deferral of a vote until Apr. 22, when it was passed out
of Committee with a 7 to 2 vote. Then, in another three hour public
hearing in the Judiciary Committee on Apr. 28, hundreds of Californians
testified again in opposition to the bill and very few testified in
support. The bill passed on a 5 to 1 vote and was referred to the Senate
Appropriations committee.

Elmo Vaccination Video Blasted by Watchdog Groups.
"Advocacy
groups lashed out on Monday after a video featuring "Sesame Street"
favorite Elmo extolling the benefits of vaccines hit the web. In the
video, Elmo, at the doctor's office and nervous about receiving a shot,
is greeted by U.S. surgeon general Vivek Murthy, who explains the
importance of vaccinations... "It is inappropriate for the federal
government to market pharmaceutical products directly to very young
children who have no concept of risk. Vaccines are pharmaceutical
products that, like all pharmaceuticals, carry a risk of reactions that
can lead to injury or death and parents are legally responsible for
making informed decisions for minor children about medical interventions
that can cause harm," Barbara Loe Fisher, co-founder and president of
the National Vaccine Information Center, told The Wrap in a
statement. The non-profit charitable organization, which was founded in
1982, seeks "to prevent vaccine injuries and deaths through public
education and protect the ethical principle of informed consent to
medical risk-taking." The NVIC also "advocates for the inclusion of
flexible medical, religious and conscientious belief vaccine exemptions

Opting Out of Vaccination Requires More Paperwork for Colorado Parents.
Parents in Colorado who don't want their children immunized will have
to complete paperwork every year as opposed to just once, under new
state rules.
The
state Board of Health passed the changes Wednesday. Nearly five percent
of parents in Colorado choose not to get all the recommended
vaccinations...
The new rules also require schools and daycares to report their
immunization rates each year. That information will be available to the
public. "Because a minority of parents have chosen not to vaccinate
children we're going to harass them? Is that the kind of society we're
living in? What medical procedure are we going to harass people about in
the future?" asked National Vaccine Information Center spokeswoman

ACLU Fights Democrat Vaccine Mandate Bill in California. "Moms,
some with children, journeyed again to Sacramento on Wednesday to
protest the bill that would strip parents of their right to opt their
children out of one or more vaccinations required for public or private
school enrollment using the current "personal belief" waiver... The new
bill mandates that under-vaccinated children must be homeschooled or
enrolled in an independent study program. ACLU California Center
for Advocacy and Policy legislative director, Kevin G. Baker penned a
letter to the bill's authors....In that letter Baker contended that
California's Constitution provides children with a right to a public
education... Baker's letter contends that the bill [SB277] fails to
provide ample argument for the state having a "compelling interest" in
mandating vaccinations. "We're not solving it with this broad brush

What the News Isn't Saying About Vaccine-Autism Studies. "A
new study this week found no link between vaccines and autism. It
instantly made headlines on TV news and popular media everywhere. Many
billed it as the final word, "once again," disproving the notion that
vaccines could have anything to do with autism. What you didn't learn on
the news was that the study was from a consulting firm that lists major
vaccine makers among its clients: The Lewin Group. That potential
conflict of interest was not disclosed in the paper published in The New England Journal of Medicine." Sharyl Attkisson Apr. 25, 2015.
Limit on California Vaccine Opt-outs Clears Key Committee. "Audience
members were emotional following Senate Education Committee's decision
on SB277 at the California State Capitol, Wednesday, April 22, 2015, in
Sacramento, Calif. The bill was approved with a 7-2 vote and now goes to
the Senate Judiciary Committee. SB277 would eliminate the
personal-belief exemption, the option California parents use to skip
their child's school immunizations, but still allow children to be
exempt for medical reasons. "Bill opponent Lisa Bakshi, a teacher in the
Sacramento suburb of Roseville said medical exemptions are not easy to
obtain, leaving many parents reliant on personal-belief exemptions. "It
is so rigid," said Bakshi, who said she has had medical testing to prove
her children are immune to some diseases and thus has chosen to skip
the vaccines for those. "My son has been seen by an immunologist at
Stanford and can still not get a medical exemption....It is a distortion

Vermont Senate Votes to Remove Philosophical Vaccine Exemption.
The Vermont Senate has voted to end the philosophical exemption some
parents use to decline to have their children vaccinated... Sen. David
Zuckerman (R-Chittenden) opposed the plan because he thinks parents have
a right to determine what's best for their children. "The important
factor for me is that the human body itself, our body, is our one vessel
that we have complete control over," he says. "Considering there is
evidence of individuals having basically allergic reactions to shots, if
we... force everybody to have them, there are a percentage of our
population for whom we are forcing to have these kinds of reactions."
Women Who Received HPV Vaccine May Need Another Shot. "Womenwho
receive the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine may be more likely to be
infected with certain high-risk strains of the virus than women who do
not get the vaccine, according to a new study. The findings suggest
that, although the vaccine is effective in protecting against four
strains of HPV, women who received it may still benefit from getting
another, recently approved HPV vaccine that protects against nine
strains of the virus, the researchers said... the women who received the
vaccine were more likely to be infected with other high-risk HPV
strains not included in the vaccine. About 61 percent of the women who
received the vaccine were infected with another type of high-risk HPV,
