Fluoride and Kidneys

Caclinch © 2008
Fluoride and Kidneys
One of the strongest physiological effects of fluorides in drinking water (e.g. hydrofluorosilicic acid) is in the kidney, a point to consider in light of increased rates of kidney failure during
recent decades.
Kidney disease markedly increases an individual's susceptibility to fluoride toxicity. In healthy adults, the kidneys are able to excrete approximately 50% of an ingested dose of fluoride. However, in adults with kidney disease the kidneys may excrete as little as 10 to 20% and young children may only excrete 15% of an ingested dose - thus increasing the body burden of fluoride and increasing an individual's susceptibility to fluoride poisoning (e.g. renal osteodystrophy).
“Overall, an average of 86.6% of the dose was retained by the infants, which is about 50% higher than would be expected for adults...the pharmacokinetics of fluoride in infants reveal(s) a completely different pattern compared to what has been found in adults.” Whitford GM 1994 Intake and Metabolism of Fluoride. Adv Dent Res 8(1): 5-14.
"HD (hemodialysis) patients need to practice dietary control for the restriction of oral F intake." Usuda K, Kono K, Yoshida Y (1997). The effect of hemodialysis upon serum levels of fluoride. Nephron 75:175-8.
“It is important to control the intake of this element [fluoride] and the prolonged use of fluoridated dental products in the subjects with chronic renal insufficiency, to avoid a risk of fluorosis.” Torra M, et al. (1998). Serum and urine fluoride concentration: relationships to age, sex and renal function in a non-fluoridated population. Science of the Total Environment 220: 81-5.
"According to the National Institute of Dental Research, also part of NIH, fluoride levels in water are set according to normal consumption of water. If an individual is consuming abnormally large quantities of water, drink bottled water.” Letter from National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Dept. of Health & Human Services, 1991
"In patients with reduced renal function, the potential for fluoride accumulation in the skeleton is increased. It has been known for many years that people with renal insufficiency have elevated plasma fluoride concentrations compared with normal healthy persons and are at a higher risk of developing skeletal fluorosis." National Research Council. (2006). Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Scientific Review of EPA's Standards. National Academies Press, Washington D.C. p140.

Case Study: "In my medical practice I have encountered two cases in which fluoridated water interfered with kidney function. One of these, Miss G.L., 27 years old, had been under my care from July 1966 to September 1969 for allergic nasal and sinus disease. She had a congenital cystic kidney necessitating consultation with a urologist. As shown by its inability to excrete indigo carmine, a dye employed as an indicator of kidney function, the left kidney was not working and was slated for removal. This patient also reported having pains and numbness in arms and legs, spasticity of the bowels, ulcers in the mouth, headaches, and a progressive general disability - symptoms of possible intolerance to fluoride - for about 15 years. Her water supply (Highland Park, Michigan) had been fluoridated since September 1952. On February 1, 1967, I instructed her to avoid fluoridated water for drinking and cooking. Within a few weeks all the above-mentioned symptoms disappeared, and another kidney dye test on June 12, 1967, astonishingly revealed that the left kidney had begun to function again! A follow-up 5 years later revealed that the patient had remained in good health as long as she refrained from drinking fluoridated water. Waldbott GL, et al. (1978). Fluoridation: The Great Dilemma. Coronado Press, Inc., Lawrence, Kansas. pp. 155-156.
"Individuals with kidney disease have decreased ability to excrete fluoride in urine and are at risk of developing fluorosis even at normal recommended limit of 0.7 to 1.2 mg/l." Bansal R, Tiwari SC. (2006). Back pain in chronic renal failure. Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation 21:2331-2332.
"Persons with renal failure can have a four fold increase in skeletal fluoride content, are at more risk of spontaneous bone fractures, and akin to skeletal fluorosis even at 1.0 ppm fluoride in drinking water." Ayoob S, Gupta AK. (2006). Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Review on the Status and Stress Effects. Critical Reviews in Environmental Science and Technology 36:433–487
Prof. (Dr.) A.K. Susheela, F.A.Sc., F.A.M.S. Ashoka Fellow Executive Director, Fluorosis Research Foundation of India, A Treatise on Fluorosis.
Fluoride inhibits antidiuretic hormone production in brain leading to:
  •   Polyuria (excessive urination)
  •   Polydipsia (excessive thirst)
Kidneys (target organ for hormones) are unable to function properly; reabsorption of water by tubules is inhibited, similar to diabetes insipidus.
If fluoride source is withdrawn, patient recovers completely within 2 weeks

The CONSTITUTION For The United States, Its Sources and Application

On March 12, 1819 the State of Virginia, with the enactment and publication of the laws of Virginia, became the 13th and FINAL state required to ratify the above article of amendment to the Constitution For The United States, thus making it the Law Of The Land. With the enactment of Act No. 280, March 12, 1819, which was Voted, En Bloc, and publication of the Revised Code, the State of Virginia notified the Department of State, the Congress, the Library of Congress, and the President of their action by issuing to each a copy of the Laws of Virginia. [See VA 1819 Images] . In fact, the Journal of the Virginia Senate; Tuesday, May 1st, 1810 (Pages 511-512 shows that the resolution to amend was properly enrolled and ratified on that date by the Virginia House and Senate, to be laid before the President of the United States, therefore the first state to ratify.
This Article of Amendment is intimately connected to questions of loyalty, honesty, war and national defense. It is designed to combat internal subversion and discord sowed by people who are adhering to powers foreign to the Congress of the United States without stepping across the bold Constitutional line of treason. The authors of the TONA wrote it after some additional experience with how the British Empire, as well as other European nations, actually conduct their affairs. It is a corrective and supplemental measure to go along with Constitutional treason.
This Article of Amendment added an enforceable strict penalty, i.e., inability to hold office and loss of citizenship, for violations of the already existing constitutional prohibition in Article 1, Section 9, Clause 8 on titles of nobility and other conflicts of citizenship interest, such as accepting emoluments of any kind for services or favors rendered or to be rendered, and is particularly applicable today in the 21st Century as government is increasingly FOR SALE to the highest bidder, as foreign nations and multinational corporations and individuals compete to line the pockets of politicians and political parties to accommodate and purchase protection or privilege for their special interests, i.e. with honors, such as money or allowing dual-citizenships.
In terms familiar to the common man, this might quite properly be called the use of bribes and graft by individuals and powers foreign, i.e. external, to the Congress of the United States to subvert the constitutional process and suborn our political system and the interests of WE THE PEOPLE.
After appearing in numerous official publications until 1876, this Article "disappeared" from our Constitution, to be replaced by another made nearly 50 years later. You may well ask how such a thing could have happened. So did we.
It is of particular interes to read the last three paragraphs of the preface to"Echoes From The Cabinet," published in 1896 .... click here .. To understand why our legislators mad it disappear.
The disappearance of the original 13th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States has been under investigation by independent modern researchers during the past -1870 years. We've learned a lot.
We now know that the original 13th Amendment was, and still is, the Law Of The Land.
The law is still there, waiting only to be publicly recognized and enforced once again to protect the Sovereignty and Interests of WE THE PEOPLE, and to force the elected representatives of the people to adhere strictly to their solemn and binding Oath of Office, i.e., "I, AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God." , and to the limitations of government imposed by the Constitution.
This site is brought to you directly by the primary researchers themselves, functioning as the TONA Research Committee. We are dedicated to continuing this research, and to placing all the facts and news on this important subject before the public.
The TONA Research Committee hopes that the hard and sometimes tedious work of the committee and the personal sacrifice of time and money involved over the past -1870 years will have a positive effect for you and our nation. The excitement of finding each new hidden piece of the puzzle has made it worthwhile for us.
September, 2002 -- An exciting find has come into our hands, "Military Laws of the United States to which is prefixed the Constitution of the United States", published in 1825 under the authority of the War Department. See Military Law Book Images and the Chronology of its Publication.
Shortly thereafter, The TONA Research Committee received images from a high school principal who had located an 1818 Digest of the Territorial Laws of Missouri in the Missouri Supreme Court Library, Jefferson City, MO ... The Organic act for Missouri Territory, of June 4,1812, separating Missouri Territory from Louisiana, became effective December 7, 1812. These images with those of 1816 Massachusetts and 1818 Pennsylvania indicate that the 13th Amendment was ratified prior to 1819 ... See Missouri Law Digest Images
2003 -- A bill, House Concurrent Resolution 10, is now before the New Hampshire legislature, reaffirming New Hampshire's December 9, 1812 ratification of the TONA... See New Hampshire House Concurrent Resolution 10

February 2003 -- Rep. Marple, prime sponsor of the New Hampshire Resolution 10 above, sent the TONA Committee copies of pages from the NH Journal of the Senate, Dated June 12, 1812, that has these surprising statements on pages 48 and 49:
Page 48:
"The following was received from His Excellency the Governor, by the Secretary.
To the Senate and House of Representatives.
I herewith communicate to the Legislature for their consideration, certain laws and resolutions passed by the Legislatures of Georgia, North-Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont, upon the subject of amendments of the Constitution of the United States, together with letters from the executive officers of those States.
      WILLIAM PLUMER"
Page 49:
"Voted, That Messers. Kimball and Ham, with such as the House of Representatives may join, be a committee to take into consideration certain laws and resolutions passed by the Legislatures of Georgia, North-Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Vermont, and other documents accompanying the same, communicated this day by His Excellency the Governor, and report thereon. Sent down for concurrence."
Images of the New Hampshire Journal entries. Pages 48 and 49
Members of the TONA Committee have long suspected that Virginia ratified the TONA in February, 1812, prior to the March 12, 1819 date of the publishing of the Revised Code of the Laws of Virginia, but we do not consider these New Hampshire journal entries as definitive. However, they are substantive.

March 2006 -- Two private publications, The True Republican, published in 1841, and the Constitution-Federalist, published in 1862 during the War Between The States, were found. Images of their pertinent pages may be seen on the Private Publications page.

March 29, 2006 -- A very high quality private publication, Echoes From The Cabinet, published in 1855 before the War Between The States was found by Steve Kouroyen, who was able to open and scan the pages. The images of the pertinent pages may be seen on the Private Publications page. The TONA Team has two other copies, too delicate and brittle to open and scan.

A merican Free Press
Boston newspaper warned of “terror drill” in advance
By Pat Shannan
Were the Boston marathon bombings just another FBI charade? As AFP goes to press, no arrests have been made, and details are scant about suspects. The mainstream media has been blaming patriots, and Vice President Joe Biden wondered out loud “if the tea partiers were in town.”
Reflecting on the Sept. 11 attacks and the at- tempted gun grab, history has shown that nothing empowers an authoritarian regime more than a spectacular act of violence.
Accounts have been circulating that the bombing was part of a staged operation, and certainly the FBI has a history of staging terrorist plots in order to hype its “war on terrorism.”
Shortly before the bombing, The Boston Globe re- ported via the Internet that, “There will be a con-
trolled explosion opposite the library [one mile away] within one minute as part of bomb squad ac- tivities.” Then, a moment later, the Globe warned: “Police will have a controlled explosion on the 600 block of Boylston Street.” Was it a drill gone wrong?
Officials did nothing to inspire confidence in the scoffers. When asked during a press conference if the bombing could be another false flag, Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick said simply, “No,” quickly followed by a dismissive, “Next question.”
Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis an- nounced, “We had no specific intelligence that any- thing was going to happen” but twice avoided answering when asked by a newsman why people had been told “to remain calm” prior to the bombs going off.
University of Mobile men’s and women’s cross country head coach Alastair Stevenson is a com- petitor who has run all over the world. He noticed as never before the enormous display of security

and bomb squad people that morning with even the Massachusetts National Guard present before the start of the race. “They kept making announce- ments on the loudspeaker that [the massive police presence] was just a drill, and there was nothing to worry about,” he said.
Canadian entrant Mike Heiliger recalled when registering for the race that he had been warned that he and others would die if they ran in the up- coming marathon. This came from a woman telling runners who were picking up their pre-race pack- ages in downtown Boston on Saturday. At the time he passed her off as a “nutcase.”
The FBI’s 1993 twin towers “controlled” bomb- ing killed six in New York, and the 9-11 attacks killed thousands. Could the Boston marathon bombing be yet another staged event to further the police state? #

Homeschooling: The Future of Liberty

Homeschooling: The Future of Liberty

A common feature of authoritarian regimes is the criminalization of alternatives to government-controlled education. Dictators recognize the danger that free thought poses to their rule, and few things promote the thinking of “unapproved” thoughts like an education controlled by parents instead of the state. That is why the National Socialist (Nazi) government of Germany outlawed homeschooling in 1938.
Sadly, these Nazi-era restrictions on parental rights remain the law in Germany, leaving parents who wish greater control over their children’s education without options. That is why in 2006 Uwe and Hannalore Romeike, a German couple who wanted to homeschool their three children for religious reasons, sought asylum in the United States. Immigration judge Lawrence Burman upheld their application for asylum, recognizing that the freedom of parents to homeschool was a “basic human right.”
Unfortunately, the current US administration does not see it that way, and has announced that it is appealing Judge Burman's decision. If the administration is successful, the Romeikes could be sent back to Germany where they will be forced to send their children to schools whose teaching violates their religious beliefs. If they refuse, they face huge fines, jail time, or even the loss of custody of their children!
The Administration’s appeal claims that the federal government has the constitutional authority to ban homeschooling in all fifty states. The truth is, the Constitution gives the federal government no power to control any aspect of education. Furthermore, parents who, like the Romeikes, have a religious motivation for homeschooling should be protected by the free exercise clause of the First Amendment.
The federal government’s hostility to homeschooling is shared by officials at all levels of government. Despite the movement’s success in legalizing homeschooling in every state, many families are still subjected to harassment by local officials. The harassment ranges from “home visits" by child protective agencies to criminal prosecution for violating truancy laws.
Every American who values liberty should support the homeschoolers’ cause. If the government can usurp parental authority over something as fundamental as the education of their children, there is almost no area of parenthood off limits to government interference.
Homeschooling has proven to be an effective means of education. We are all familiar with the remarkable academic achievements, including in national spelling bees and other competitions, by homeshcooled children. In addition, homeschooled students generally fare better than their public school educated peers on all measures of academic performance.
It makes sense that children do better when their education is controlled by those who know their unique needs best, rather than by a federal bureaucrat. A strong homeschooling movement may also improve other forms of education. If competition improves goods and services in other areas of life, why wouldn't competition improve education? A large and growing homeschooling movement could inspire public and private schools to innovate and improve.
When the government interferes with a parent's ability to choose the type of education that is best for their child, it is acting immorally and in manner inconsistent with a free society. A government that infringes on the rights of homeschooling will eventually infringe on the rights of all parents. Homeschooled children are more likely to embrace the philosophy of freedom, and to join the efforts to restore liberty. In fact, I would not be surprised if the future leaders of the liberty movement where homeschooled.
I believe so strongly in the homeschooling movement that I have just announced my own curriculum for homeschooling families. Please visit this revolutionary new project at http://www.ronpaulcurriculum.com.

Will we ever learn the full truth about the Boston Marathon bombing?  Personally, I have been looking into this attack for days, and I just keep coming up with more questions than answers.  At this point, I honestly have no idea what really happened.  Why was a bomb drill being held on the day of the attack?  Why have authorities denied that a bomb drill was taking place?  Were Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev acting alone?  What was the nature of their previous contacts with the FBI and other federal agencies?  Why did the FBI at first deny that they had been in contact with the Tsarnaev brothers previously?  Why was the investigation of a mysterious Saudi national with familial links to al-Qaeda suddenly dropped shortly after the Saudi ambassador held an unscheduled meeting with Barack Obama?  Why did Michelle Obama subsequently visit that mysterious Saudi national in the hospital?  If you are looking for answers to these questions, I am afraid that I don’t have them at this point.  But what alarms me is that the mainstream media seems to be afraid to ask any of the hard questions that they should be asking.  They just seem to swallow whatever the authorities tell them hook, line and sinker without following up on any of the things in this case that simply do not seem to make sense.
So what kinds of questions should they be asking?  The following are 17 unanswered questions about the Boston Marathon bombing that the media appears to be afraid to ask…
#1 Why were runners being told that a bomb squad drill was taking place during the Boston Marathon?  The following is from an article by Natural News
Alastair Stevenson is a veteran marathon runner who has competed in dozens of marathons around the world, including the London Marathon. He’s very familiar with the security typically found at marathons, and he immediately noticed something odd about the Boston marathon security.
“They kept making announcements on the loud speaker that it was just a drill and there was nothing to worry about. It seemed like there was some sort of threat, but they kept telling us it was just a drill,” he was quoted as saying byLocal15TV.com.
In the interview, you’ll hear Stevenson say:
“At the start at the event, at the Athlete’s Village, there were people on the roof looking down onto the Village at the start. There were dogs with their handlers going around sniffing for explosives, and we were told on a loud announcement that we shouldn’t be concerned and that it was just a drill. And maybe it was just a drill, but I’ve never seen anything like that — not at any marathon that I’ve ever been to. You know, that just concerned me that that’s the only race that I’ve seen in my life where they had dogs sniffing for explosions, and that’s the only place where there had been explosions.”
#2 Why did authorities deny that a bomb squad drill was being held?
#3 According to The Mirror, the FBI is reportedly “hunting” a 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” that Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were allegedly a part of…
A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.
“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”
If that is the case, why are authorities in Boston adamantly insisting that the two brothers were acting alone?
#4 CBS News is reporting that the FBI interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev back in 2011.  The mother of the two Tsarnaev brothers insists that the FBI had been in contact with them for up to five years.  At first, the FBI denied any previous contact with the two suspects.  Will we ever learn the true scope of the previous relationship between the FBI and the Tsarnaev brothers?
#5 Debka is reporting that the Tsarnaev brothers were “double agents” which had been “hired by US and Saudi intelligence to penetrate the Wahhabi jihadist networks which, helped by Saudi financial institutions, had spread across the restive Russian Caucasian.”  Could this possibly be true?  If so, will the American people be told the truth about these links?
#6 According to their uncle, there were “mentors” that “radicalized” the Tsarnaev brothers.  So precisely who were those “mentors”?
#7 What happened during Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s trip to Dagestan and Chechnya last year?
#8 Were the Tsarnaev brothers in contact with a rebel leader named Doku Umarov who is known as “Russia’s Bin Laden”?
#9 Did Tamerlan Tsarnaev post a video on YouTube last summer that expresses a belief that the 12th Imam, Mahdi, will soon come and that an Islamic army with black flags with arise out of a province in Iran known as Khorasan?
#10 Why aren’t we being told that the “pressure cooker bombs” used in the Boston Marathon attacks are very similar to the kind of pressure cooker bombs that are commonly used in the Middle East?
The Daily Beast has confirmed with U.S. counter-terrorism officials that the bombs placed Monday at the marathon were made from pressure cookers, a crude kind of explosive favored by insurgents in Pakistan and Afghanistan. A recipe for a bomb that uses the pressure cooker was part of the debut issue of Inspire, the English-language online magazine of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
#11 Initially we were told that Saudi national Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi was a “person of interest” in the case.  But now he is scheduled to leave the countrywith the full blessing of the U.S. government.  Why is there such a rush to get him out of the United States?
#12 Why aren’t we being told that Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi was photographedwith two other Saudis in the vicinity of the Boston marathon bombings?
#13 Why aren’t we being told of the shocking familial links that Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi has to known members of al-Qaeda?  The following is from research complied by Walid Shoebat
Many from Al-Harbi’s clan are steeped in terrorism and are members of Al-Qaeda. Out of a list of 85 terrorists listed by the Saudi government shows several of Al-Harbi clan to have been active fighters in Al-Qaeda:
#15 Badr Saud Uwaid Al-Awufi Al-Harbi
#73 Muhammad Atiq Uwaid Al-Awufi Al-Harbi
#26 Khalid Salim Uwaid Al-Lahibi Al-Harbi
#29 Raed Abdullah Salem Al-Thahiri Al-Harbi
#43 Abdullah Abdul Rahman Muhammad Al-Harbi (leader)
#60 Fayez Ghuneim Humeid Al-Hijri Al-Harbi

Source: http://aalhameed1.net/vb/showthread.php?t=1565
Then you have Al-Harbi clan members in Gitmo:
Salim Salman Awadallah Al-Sai’di Al-Harbi
Majid Abdullah Hussein Al-Harbi
Muhammad Abdullah Saqr Al-Alawi Al-Harbi
Ghanem Abdul Rahman Ghanem Al-Harbi
Muhammad Atiq Uwaid Al-Awfi Al-Harbi

Source: http://www.muslm.net/vb/showthread.php?169019-أسماء-(90)-سعودياً-لا-زالوا-محتجزين-في-جوانتانامو
There are specific Saudi clans that are rife with members of Al-Qaeda, which makes it quite alarming as to why nearly a hundred thousand student visas are issued to these. Americans are clueless as to clan ties when it comes to terrorism.
#14 Why did U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry have a private meeting with a Saudi foreign minister shortly after Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi was identified as a potential suspect?
#15 Why did Barack Obama hold an unscheduled meeting with the ambassador from Saudi Arabia shortly after Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi was identified as a potential suspect?
#16 Why did Michelle Obama visit Abdulrahman Ali Alharbi in the hospital?
#17 Why did numerous mainstream media outlets openly suggest that “right-wing extremists” were behind the bombings in the immediate aftermath of the attack?
Are there any other unanswered questions that you would add to this list?  Please feel free to share your thoughts by leaving a comment below

The story of the Taino Indians of Cuba

The Great Dying

Santa Maria 1492
Santa Maria, 1492
Following the fateful arrival of Columbus in Cuba in 1492 and its subsequent occupation between 1494 and 1513 by Spanish conquistadors, both the island and its Taino - Arawak Indian peoples' idyllic world were irrevocably shattered. Yet, Columbus' first landings in Cuba and the West Indies carried no dark portent for the Indians, only the high magic of miraculous advent. His very presence: "The fair skin, the look of command, the glistening armour, the manly beard, the death-dealing carbine, all rendered Columbus supernatural divinity and power in their eyes." (Christopher Columbus by Emilio Castelar. 1892)
Of all Columbus' 'discoveries', Cuba stirred in him the deepest, most affecting emotions. He wrote in rapturous terms of "its streams strewn with the showered petals of the myriad flowers that festooned their banks, the beautiful mountain ranges that stretched not far but rose to lofty heights. The cool and aromatic groves, the yams that tasted like sweet chestnuts, the brightly plumaged birds and the inexhaustible aloes." Such enchantments led him to pronounce Cuba the "most beautiful land that eyes ever beheld."
(Christopher Columbus by Emilio Castelar. 1892)
Map of Cuba
Equally alluring to Columbus were the Taino-Arawak Indians he met during his island hoppings of the West Indies. His journals record their "Naked innocence and quick response to the influences of kindness rather than acts of force... Their hair, thick as a horse's mane, falls in long locks upon their shoulders. They are shapely of body and handsome of face. So ignorant of arms are they that they grasp swords by the blade! They are very gentle, without knowing what evil is, without killing, without stealing."
Even so, Columbus' rainbow rhapsody of Eden-like islands and their peaceful, welcoming inhabitants could not last. It was eventually pierced by his reminder to himself that the goal was not to write lyrical poems but to find gold. Gold would be glittering evidence back home in Spain of his discoveries and earn him both immortal fame and earthly riches.
Spurred on by greed as much as hope, Columbus left Cuba and sailed eastwards. He duly landed on Haiti where, to his disappointment, he found no great caches of gold, only small trinkets worn by the Indians. These, without conscience, he took from his innocents, along with a whole New World for Spain. In return he gave them worthless glass beads!
Enthused by his meretriciousness, Columbus mentally performed a volte-face. Writing to their Spanish majesties, Ferdinand and Isabella, he boasted that he could supply them with "slaves, as many of these idolatrous Indians as your highnesses can command to be shipped, along with as much gold as you need. Gold is most excellent. Gold is treasure and he who possesses it does all he wishes to do in this world."
Columbus failed to deliver on his boast and earned not personal fortune but only fame; even the latter is considered today as more synonymous with infamy! But his avaricious exaltation of the pursuit of gold was the irresistible, resounding clarion call to his fellow Spaniards to invade the Americas. They did so with zeal and alacrity and set in motion a holocaust of horror and death for the Native peoples, a holocaust that is epitomised in the story of Hatuey and the conquest and colonisation of Cuba. In 1511 the Spaniard, Diego Velasquez, sailed from Hispaniola to Cuba. On landing he was resisted by Taino Indians under a chieftain, Hatuey, already a witness to Diego's atrocities elsewhere. For some time, they valiantly defended the island, skillfully making sudden attacks on the Spaniards and then retreating to the hills. Eventually, however, Spanish military power overwhelmed them. Defeated, they were subjected to barbarous tortures.
Hatuey was sentenced by the Spanish Crown to a public death and was burned alive at the stake. The Spanish priest, Bartolomé de la Casa, recorded the words of the chieftain to his people: "These tyrants tell us they adore a God of peace and equality, yet they usurp our land and enslave us. They speak of an immortal soul and of eternal rewards and punishments. They rob us, seduce our women and violate our daughters. Unable to match us in valour, these cowards cover themselves in iron that our spears cannot pierce."
Bartolomé de la Casa also described the fate of the Tainos. "A village of around 2500 was wiped out. They (the Spaniards) set upon the Indians, slashing, disembowelling and slaughtering them until their blood ran like a river. And of those Tainos they kept alive they sent to the mines, harnessing them to loads they could scarcely drag and with fiendish sport and mockery hacking off their hands and feet and mutilating them in ways that will not bear description."
Today, Hatuey is still regarded as the first martyr in the struggle for Cuban independence. For the Tainos of Eastern Cuba he remains an integral part of their oral tradition and each year a pilgrimage is still made by them to the site of his horrific death.
By 1527, Spanish control of the Greater Antilles* was complete and some ten million Taino-Arawak Indians had perished. The few survivors, in their infinite grief, spoke of The Great Dying of their peoples. They did not know then that the dying would go on and on as the Spaniards and rival Europeans, still lusting after conquest and gold, swept like a demon plague through Middle and South America. As the year 1600 dawned the holocaust had engulfed a further 95 million Indians. (*Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Puerto Rico).

Today, there are 40 million Indians in the Americas. In many ways they still struggle against suppression, racism, and subtler forms of genocide and assimilation. But now they are strong of will and purpose and are experiencing powerful ethnic resurgence. Rigoberta Menchu* in a foreword to Phillip Wearne's marvellous book, Return of the Indian, 1996. writes: "We are moving into the light of a new era. After so many years of waiting for a new dawn we believe that our voices will make themselves heard, that you will listen to us and support our legitimate aspirations." (*Rigoberta Menchu: Mayan Indian and Nobel Prize winner of 1992).

We are still here

For five hundred years, historians asserted that the Caribbean Taino-Arawak Indians were wholly extinct, victims of Spanish conquest. Today, it is known that thousands of Taino descendants are alive and well, not only in Cuba but in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Florida, New York, California, Hawaii and even Spain.
Since 1997 Taino Indians have been reunited annually with their relatives of the diaspora at a conference held in Baracoa, Cuba's First City. For Panchito Ramirez, healer, herbalist and Taino cacique (chief) of Caridad de los Indios, a Cuban mountain village, the reunion is ongoing answer to his many prayers. "It is as if our ancestors are now sending their children back to us, for we now know we are not the last of our kind and are not alone."
The conferences have opened up to the world the reality of Taino continued existence, their invaluable contributions to the fabric of Cuban society, and in 2001 brought together the largest contingent yet of Native representatives, scholars, medical professionals and journalists. On the last day of the conference, Cuban government officials gave the gathering the welcome and ringing assurance that "Cuba fully supports and will not allow any harm to come to its Indian Peoples."

Caridad de los Indios is so remote from mainstream Cuban modernity that Ramirez and his 350 Indian villagers live today as simply as did their ancestors, keeping deep resonance with their ancient customs and spiritual lifeways. "Our Taino homes," says Ramirez, "are traditional bohios, huts with thatched roofs, set amidst Conuco's, our permaculture* raised-bed gardens. The Conuco's are our ample 'grocery store' and provide us with most of our fruits and vegetables." (*The contraction of 'permanent agriculture')
The Taino intuitive at-oneness with all of Nature is still being manifestly expressed, healthwise, by the richly enduring benefit they reap from the harvesting of plants from their lush valleys and forested mountains. Their unbroken practice of extracting efficacious herbal medicines now attracts global interest and is a constant theme for conference discussion.
Indeed, Taino 'green medicine' as it is known is greatly valued by the Cuban government which promotes its wide use as an alternative to pharmaceutical medicine. Cuban children in elementary schools are trained in herbal remedies which they can prepare at home as poultices, tinctures, salves and teas. And local gardens, even in cities, are almost all organic and stocked with natural medicine plants.
As an extension to the 2001 conference, Panchito Ramirez and his daughter Reina* offered delegates a tour of a 'healing forest' on an island in Cuba's Toa River. Vigilantly conserved and protected, the sacred forest is a cornucopia of hundreds of medicinal plants. Delegates agreed that it was a highlight of an already unforgettable conference and reunion. Before their leave-taking, Reina asked the delegates to carry a message home to Native women in the North to remind them "that we are all related. Tell them that the women here in Caridad send greetings to our sister-mothers in the North Americas and other lands. Tell them to keep their traditions. We wish for them healthy children." (*Panchito's helper in healing ceremonies.)
Daniel Wakonax Rivera, a Taino Indian from Brooklyn, New York, wistfully recalled how six days into his visit he found what he was longing for. "When we climbed over that last ridge in the mountains and I heard the drums and the songs of our people welcoming us I was overwhelmed with emotion." With tears in his eyes, he added: "It was like coming home." Echoing Daniel, Inarunikia Pastrana, a Taino Indian nurse, said, "Our ancestors fought for survival and thanks to their tenacity the resurgence and restoration of the Taino people are a reality. Our language is heard again, our songs are sung again. Against all odds we have defeated extinction and continue to rescue our ancestral heritage and culture."

Israel to Halt Mandatory Fluoridation

              Israel to Halt Mandatory Fluoridation

Israel’s Health Minister German recently decided to halt mandatory fluoridation in the Country of Israel.
After looking at the science from both sides Health Minister German made a decision that will make her country a healthier place.
It is likely that Health Minister German listened to Dr. Yolanda Whyte Pediatrician on her excellent observation on fluoridation.
Michael Connett from the Fluoride Action Network adds to the information we already have about fluoride, with these ten important facts.
With the upcoming town meeting concerning ending fluoridation in the Town of Templeton, this information is invaluable.
If you take the time to educate yourself on the health problems associated with water fluoridation you will be doing everyone in your community a huge favor.
